Volume for every app

The mixer itself: one row per running app, in a panel that opens from the menu bar.

A volume slider for every app

Every running app with a window gets its own slider from 0% to 200% in 1% steps, separate from the Mac's volume. Chrome and Electron helper processes are grouped under their app.

Per-app volume control

Boost up to 200%

Anything above 100% raises that one app. There is no limiter, so raise a boost in small steps: loud parts can clip.

Volume booster

Mute one app

A mute button on every row. Unmuting brings back the exact level, and moving the slider of a muted app unmutes it.

Mute one app

Mac volume and output device

The top of the panel holds the Mac's own volume (0% to 100%) and, when more than one output is connected, a picker that switches the Mac's output device, for example from the speakers to AirPods. Some HDMI and DisplayPort outputs have no software volume and do not respond to the slider.

Switch audio output quickly

Calls, profiles and memory

The parts that save you from setting the same sliders again.

Auto-duck during calls

When Zoom, Teams, FaceTime, Discord, Slack, Webex, Skype or a browser uses the microphone, the panel shows "Call active" and other apps play at 30% of their level (10% to 80%, your choice). They come back when the call ends. SoundDial never opens or records the microphone.

Lower music during calls

Volume profiles

Save every app's volume and mute as a profile with a name and an icon, then switch with one click on its chip. Save in the footer makes a quick save. The Work, Focus and Chill chips start empty: fill them with Update.

Volume profiles

Remembers each app's volume

With "Default volume for new apps" set to Remember last (the default), SoundDial keeps the level you set for each app; choose Always 100% to start fresh. Mute is not remembered, and an app opened later may need a touch of its slider before the saved level applies.

Make it yours

Settings has five tabs: Setup, General, Appearance, Auto-Duck and About.

Launch at login

Turn on Launch at login in Settings โ†’ General and SoundDial is in the menu bar after every restart.

Show in Dock

SoundDial stays out of the Dock by default. Turn on Show in Dock if you want it there.

Icons, percentages and sort order

Show or hide app icons and volume percentages, and sort the list by Name or Most Recent.

34 languages

SoundDial follows your Mac's language, or pick one of 34 languages in Settings โ†’ General (a restart of SoundDial applies it).

Setup and privacy

One macOS permission, explained in the app, and nothing that leaves your Mac.

Guided setup

A setup card walks you through the one permission macOS needs (Privacy & Security โ†’ Screen & System Audio Recording โ†’ System Audio Recording Only), with a button that opens the right place and a short setup video.

Private by design

SoundDial is sandboxed, has no network access, no account and no analytics, and installs no audio driver. It only opens links you click (website, support mail, App Store review).

Mac App Store, one-time purchase

Needs macOS 14.2 or later. Bought once on the Mac App Store, no subscription, updates through the App Store.

What SoundDial does not do

SoundDial works per app, not per browser tab. It sets volume and mute; it does not record audio, send one app to a different output than the rest, or change how apps sound beyond their level.

Every app on your Mac, its own volume.
